This axial flow valve with solid Tungsten Carbide trims is designed to provide lower volume and weight solutions to large sized choke applications. The axial choke valve can also be fitted with fast closing features to protect downstream installations from overpressure.

Main product features

Axial flow
Streamlined flow path through full-port expanded body avoids turbulence and prevents vibration and erosion of body and trim parts. Its reliability reduces the total cost of ownership and unplanned process downtime.

Availability
The Total Velocity Management® concept is an intelligent valve design that carefully manages fluid velocity in all areas of the valve, minimizing erosion in body and trim. This significantly increases production availability.

Accurate control
Accurate control is possible (also with minimum opening) because of the fully pressure-balanced trim. Small, spring-opposed actuators can also be selected for large valve sizes. 

High turndown
The high inherent capacity and accurate control features make the valve suitable for both start-up and well depletion production scenarios. 

Compact
As a result of the low actuation force requirement, small actuators can be used; combined with a compact valve body design this minimizes the installation’s footprint. 

Process safety
Sometimes, a choke is considered as a safety device to prevent overload of the relief system. In this axial choke the Tungsten Carbide cage is inherently protected against direct impacts by foreign objects. 

ESD configuration
The self-energising sealing system offers reliable bi-directional and bubble tight shut-off. Therefore the axial choke valve can also be configured for Emergency Shut Down with quick and dependable valve closure. 

Special features 

  • Custom-designed valve, trim and actuator for each unique choke application.
  • Wide variety of liquid, gas and multi-phase trims in linear and equal% execution.
  • Special RCU large hole trims for dirty well clean-up service and RDS high capacity trims for negligible pressure loss at well depletion stage.
  • Full range of matching Mokveld pneumatic and hydraulic actuators with tailored control arrangements is available. Actuation with other types of actuators is possible.

 

  •  For optimal controllability Mokveld advises to use the standardized Mokveld positioner
    SRD991 intelligent positioner - Intrinsically safe positioner in aluminium or stainless steel
    SRD960 universal positioner - Explosion proof positioner in aluminium
    These valve positioners have several unique features, for example:
    • Fully fail stay put on loss of supply and/or fail stay put on loss of air
    • Use with natural gas
